Baptism is such an important & life-giving step of obedience for a follower of Jesus!

If you're a follower of Jesus but haven't yet followed Him in baptism, SIGN UP TODAY!

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is not only a powerful step of obedience to God, it's an expression of a believer's new life in Jesus. In baptism we declare to the church and to the world that we have put our trust & hope in Jesus and have been made new in Him!

Baptism illustrates a couple of things:

1. The burial & resurrection of Jesus

  • "For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ through your faith in the active power of God, who raised him from death." -Colossians 2:12

2. My new life as a follower of Jesus

  • "When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun!" -2 Corinthians 5:17

Does Baptism make me a Christian?

Baptism doesn’t MAKE you a believer in Jesus - it SHOWS that you already believe.

It doesn't "save" you, only faith in Jesus can save you.

  • "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith … it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast." -Ephesians 2:8-9

Baptism is like a wedding ring – it's the outward symbol of an inward (heart) commitment.

Who should be baptized?

Every person who believes in Jesus!

"Those who believe and accepted His message were baptized…" -Acts 2:41

Can children be baptized?

Absolutely! Jesus even tells us in Matthew 19, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

At Refuge we simply do what we can to ensure that a child understands the decision to put their faith in Jesus and the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them.

What if I was baptized as an infant?

If you were baptized as an infant then it was the intent of your parents that you would one day be a follower of Jesus.  So your baptism as an adult can actually be viewed as the fulfillment of your parents’ wishes. It in no way negates the baptism you received as a child.
